The story began in 2003 with a few members of the Kiwanis Club of Keene, New Hampshire. Those tools became Club Resource, then Portalbuzz — trusted by clubs and organizations worldwide. Along the way, founder Scott Smith served as Chief Technology Officer at Kiwanis International.
When Aplos shut Portalbuzz down in 2024, thousands of clubs lost their platform. We couldn’t rebuild Portalbuzz — so we built something better: modern technology, a real mobile app, built-in AI, and the same volunteer-first design philosophy.

Is MemberDay really built by the Portalbuzz team?
Yes. MemberDay was founded by Scott and Lynn Smith — the founders of Club Resource, which became Portalbuzz and served clubs for nearly twenty years. Scott also served as Chief Technology Officer at Kiwanis International.
What happened to Portalbuzz?
Portalbuzz was acquired by Aplos Software in 2017 and shut down on March 1, 2024. Its founders built MemberDay from the ground up as the modern successor.
Can you import our old Portalbuzz data?
If you still have a Portalbuzz export, we’ll import your members and member types from it for you — free. If you don’t, send us whatever member lists you have (spreadsheets, old rosters) and we’ll get your club rebuilt quickly. Other records and documents can live in your MemberDay File Manager, so they’re not lost.
Will MemberDay feel familiar?
That’s the idea. MemberDay was designed around the same club workflows Portalbuzz served — meetings, dues, committees, communication — rebuilt on modern technology with a mobile app and AI that Portalbuzz never had.
Will MemberDay disappear like Portalbuzz did?
MemberDay is independent and founder-owned — the same people who supported clubs for two decades, now building the platform they always wanted to build. Serving clubs isn’t a side business for us; it’s the whole business.
